Temporary Policy Extension for Maximum Vacation Accrual

The Office of the President has approved an exception to Policy 41-Vacation to extend the vacation maximum accrual “grace period” from four months to six months. This extension is being implemented to facilitate the use of vacation time for employees participating in the Furlough/Salary Reduction program. This exception will be effective January 1, 2010 through January 15, 2011.

For example, if you earn 8 hours of vacation per month, you will now be allowed to accrue 48 hours more than the maximum. Previously, you would have been allowed to accrue 32 hours more than the maximum.

The new “grace period” applies only to employees participating in the Furlough/Salary Reduction program who are covered by Personal Policy for Staff Members (PPSM). This provision is not applicable to employees represented by union contracts or who have been exempted from the furlough program.
