UCOP Cares Inaugural Meeting

Roughly two dozen people attended the first meeting of UCOP Cares, a new employee group aimed at broadening awareness of volunteer and giving opportunities and building community within the Office of the President.

Dwaine Duckett, vice president of human resources, and Nathan Brostrom, UC’s executive vice president for business operations, were among the attendees. Both said they were excited about the new group, and the ways it could help strengthen local communities while building workplace camaraderie.

Participants discussed various volunteer and giving opportunities, including the many initiatives already underway at UCOP. They also talked about using the mandatory April 16 furlough day to help plant gardens at Oakland schools. Employee participation in the event would be voluntary.  UCOP Cares members will publicize additional details of the Volunteer Day as they develop.

The group plans to develop a webpage highlighting opportunities for staff to get involved. Employees are also invited to drop by the monthly meetings. Meeting dates for 2010 are posted below and on the UCOP Event Calendar.
