Desktop videoconferencing now available

Beginning June 1, IR&C is making the iLinc desktop videoconferencing service available to UCOP departments. iLinc is a Web-based service that integrates video, desktop, application sharing, and other collaborative capabilities.

To use iLinc, each meeting participant must purchase or have access to a Webcam on their computer, and establish a ReadyTalk audio conferencing account. Specifications for cameras as well as system requirements are listed in the iLinc FAQ.

Requesting an iLinc Account
Send an e-mail to TechDesk@ucop.edu to request an iLinc account. The account will be activated within 3-5 business days. The customer will receive a confirmation e-mail that includes information about the account and the link to the iLinc Web site. If requested, the TechDesk will assist customers with installing the Webcam.

Learning How to Use iLinc
Training materials for using iLinc, including a useful FAQ, are posted on the Web. Running an iLinc meeting is not immediately intuitive. It is important for meeting leaders to prepare by reviewing the training information and demos well in advance of their first iLinc meeting.
