Kick off LGBTI Pride Month at UCOP ice cream social

The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Intersex Staff Association (LGBTISA) invites the UCOP community to an ice cream social, cosponsored by the UCOP Staff Assembly, on Thursday, June 2, 3 to 4:30 p.m., in the Franklin Building 5th floor rooftop garden.

The entire UCOP community is invited to the event to kick off LGBTI Pride Month. President Mark Yudof will attend and is planning to deliver a special welcome message. Other special guests have been invited to speak.

LGBTI Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Riots of June 1969, which helped trigger the modern struggle for equality for LGBTI people

“This is also a great time to recognize and celebrate the diversity of the University of California, its staff, students and faculty,” said Margaret Wu, senior counsel in the UCOP Office of General Counsel and LGBTISA co-chair with Gregory Sykes, coordinator in UCOP’s Office of Institutional Research.

The group holds lunchtime meetings on the third Thursday of each month. For more details, check the LGBTISA website at http://www.ucop.edu/lgbtia/ or contact Wu (margaret.wu@ucop.edu, 510-987-9747) or Sykes (gregory.sykes@ucop.edu, 510-987-0201).
