Correction: Emergency training in basic first aid, not AED/CPR

Upcoming emergency training sessions in June at the Franklin and Kaiser buildings provide basic first aid training, not AED/CPR as previously announced. Link apologizes for the error.

The four-hour basic first aid class is designed to provide UCOP employees with the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to manage a medical emergency until advanced help is available.

Topics covered include bleeding control; managing shock; head, neck and back injuries; burns; stroke; diabetic emergencies; seizures; asthma; severe allergic reactions; poisoning; bites and stings; and environmental emergencies.

This class is sponsored by UCOP’s Office of Risk Management and is taught by Carol S. McMillan, an emergency medical technician certified by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross and the National Safety Council. Sessions are scheduled as follows:

Franklin training sessions

  • Thursday, June 14, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 10325 Franklin
  • Thursday, June 14, 1 to 5 p.m., 10325 Franklin

UCOP’s first aid training program, established several years ago in Oakland-based locations, has provided many employees with valuable training. A first aider can prevent death and permanent disfigurement by knowing what to do and what not to do in an emergency.

To register, go to the UCOP Learning Center and log in with your UCOP username and password. Search for the class title “UCOP first aid” in the website search box and click REGISTER next to the class, then SUBMIT.
