Coming Nov. 14: Ehrensaft on gender nonconformity

UCSF Associate Professor Diane Ehrensaft visits UCOP this week with a talk entitled “Who Are the Genders in your Neighborhood? Raising a Gender Creative Generation,” on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 12 to 1 p.m. in 9204 Franklin.

Ehrensaft is also a developmental and clinical psychologist and author of several books, including Gender Born, Gender Made: Raising Healthy Gender-Nonconforming Children. Her talk will explore the following questions:

  • What are the challenges of gender nonconformity?
  • How should parents respond to children who are exploring their gender, curious about gender nonconformity or encounter gender nonconformity in their community?
  • How do we balance our fears and desire to protect our children with our desire to create a loving and accepting environment?

The event is cosponsored by UCOP Pride and the UCOP Family Resource Network. For more details, contact Gregory Sykes at gregory.sykes@ucop.edu or Lifang Chiang at lifang.chiang@ucop.edu.
