Update on Career Tracks job classification program

UCOP continues to move forward with Career Tracks, the new program to clarify job classifications, orient compensation programs to market practices and define career paths for employees.

Career Tracks will replace UCOP’s outdated job classification framework with a market-based system for all MSP and policy-covered PSS employees. The goal is to group jobs into more clearly defined families that better align with comparable jobs in the labor market as well as jobs on UC campuses.

Managers and department leaders have been working in close partnership with HR to review the new program. This period of review has been productive and is critical for a successful implementation, said Dennis Larsen, executive director of Compensation Programs and Strategy.

The timeline for implementation has been adjusted to allow adequate time for review and for managers to fully participate in the process. The Compensation Team anticipates that it will conclude its overall analysis, finalize the new salary grades and ranges, and wrap up management consultations in early 2013.
