Join basketball dad DeShawn Boyd at Cal women’s game Feb. 24

If you’ve ever been within earshot of DeShawn Boyd, self-described jack-of-all-trades in UCOP’s Research Grants Program Office, you might already know that his daughter plays on the UC Berkeley women’s basketball team.

And if you take advantage of the special discounts offered to UCOP staff for the Cal women’s Feb. 24 game against Oregon State, you’re bound to catch No. 15 Brittany in the starting lineup. DeShawn will also be there cheering her on, as he is for all the home games and many of the road games.

You can get your tickets for the game, which takes place Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. in Haas Pavilion on the Berkeley campus, at $3 for adults and $1 for youth. Just print and fill out the order form and send it to Sherry Perocier at Sherry.Perocier@ucop.edu. Order your tickets by Feb. 15 to get the discount.

DeShawn used to take little Brittany to the basketball court at Hilltop Green Park in Richmond, where he would play pick-up games. “She would sit in her stroller and watch me play,” DeShawn said. “From the time she first touched a basketball, she didn’t want to do anything else.”

Brittany Boyd, a 5’9”, 19-year-old sophomore, plays point guard in her second year on the team. She has aspirations to go pro and hopes to try out this summer for the USA Under 19 National Team, which sponsors teams of various ages to tour around the world to train and play.

With a 19-2 record, the Cal women are ranked number 6 nationally and tied at 9-1, with Stanford, at the top of the Pac-12 conference standings. It’s bound to be an exciting road to the Pac-12 Tournament in March.

So get your tickets today for the Feb. 24 game, and keep an eye out for No. 15. The event also features pregame activities for children such as face painting, poster making and inflatable games. Significant others and families are also welcome. Please note:
