Upcoming classes: Excel, team dynamics, difficult people

UCOP is offering several classes in April, from computer skills to writing to office dynamics. All classes are offered in the Franklin building, and you can enroll at any time through the UC Learning Center.

Guide to Team Dynamics, Thursday, April 4, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 12322 Franklin

Team dynamics influence how a team behaves, performs and meets its goals. As a team leader, how do you manage the team environment so that dynamics are positive and results are achieved? As a team member, how do you contribute to positive team dynamics and results? This workshop offers tips for getting a team off to a productive start using team roles and operating guidelines; and identifying and managing team dynamics, team stages, characteristics of effective teams and accountability.

Working with Difficult People, Thursday, April 4, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 5320 Franklin

Dealing with difficult people begins with understanding how we behave and impact others. Planning for and approaching challenging people with effective communication tools and techniques can lead to more positive outcomes and help you turn difficult situations into opportunities for growth. You will learn the benefits of confrontation and how to deal with anger, as well as a three-step conflict-resolution model.

Microsoft Excel Introduction, Tuesday, April 9, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 7107 Franklin

Microsoft Excel 2007 makes it easy to crunch numbers and organize data in an immediately comprehensible format. This all-day class will equip you with new tools to create professional Excel spreadsheets quickly and efficiently.

Conflict Management in the Workplace, Tuesday, April 16, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 12322 Franklin
Conflict is a natural occurrence in the workplace, ranging from differences of opinion to patterns of interaction between two people or heated disagreements. This new workshop provides useful tools for assessing conflict situations and your own style for handling conflict. When managed effectively, conflict can be used to spur innovation and productive change that supports rather than undermines the organization’s goals.

Visio, Thursday, April 18, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 7107 Franklin

Microsoft Visio provides templates for creating advanced diagrams and layouts. This hands-on workshop focuses on real-world uses of Visio and challenges individuals face in their day-to-day environment. Content covered includes pivot diagrams, organization charts, cross-functional flow charts, drawing basic shapes, creating and formatting diagrams, and more.

To register for any of these classes, go to the UC Learning Center:

  • Log in using your UCOP login and password.
  • Using the Search box on the left, type in the name of the class you want; that will bring up Results of Search.
  • Click the session you want, then click on the Register box and Submit.
