YPA exceeds its goal: Now, let’s build a playhouse!

Congratulations to the Young Professionals Association! The UCOP YPA staff affinity group exceeded its goal of raising $2,500 and will donate nearly $2,900 to Habitat for Humanity’s East Bay/Silicon Valley Chapter Playhouse Program.

Through two bake sales, a raffle, tabling and good old-fashioned persistence, members of the YPA raised exactly $2,889. They will use the funds to buy materials and build a playhouse through Habitat for Humanity’s program to build and donate playhouses to local families and service organizations working with children.

There are still two spots left to volunteer on build day, Saturday, July 27, 2013, which will take place 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Milpitas. If you’re interested in joining the work group, contact Evelyn Cheng at Evelyn.Cheng@ucop.edu.

“We want to send a shout out to the entire building for their generosity,” Cheng said. “We couldn’t have done this without all the bakers, volunteers and supportive people who helped us reach our goal.” Cheng is a member of the YPA planning committee and helped organize the playhouse drive.

At the July 12 raffle drawing, these lucky winners took home gift cards and certificates to local merchants and other prizes:

  • Teresa Alvarez: Cugini Ristorante and Pizzeria
  • Nathan Brostrom: Jimmy Beans
  • Linda Buffett: Juan’s Place
  • Peter Cataldo: Juan’s Place
  • Maria Chung: Lo Coco’s Pizzeria
  • Elizabeth Rodriguez-Dias: Café Rouge
  • Cynthia Hsu: Townhouse Bar & Grill
  • Charles Masten: Oakland A’s tickets
  • Jackie Shelton: Juan’s Place
  • Karen Tomajan: Juan’s Place

Those two bake sales were AMAZING–we sure have some expert bakers in the house. Those cute little hedgehog cookies were my faves, but really, everything was wonderful. Congrats on exceeding your goal$.
