Buying a Bay Area home: Sept. 26 workshop at UCOP

Are you longing to own your own home but finding yourself bewildered by the whole process?

Help is on the way! UCOP’s Family Resource Network (FRN) and Young Professionals Association (YPA) are cosponsoring a workshop, Buying a Home in the Bay Area, Thursday, Sept. 26, 12 to 1 p.m. in 10325 Franklin.

Guest presenters June McDaniels and Stacia Eyerly Hatfield will guide you through the first-time home-buying maze, from identifying properties to financing and closing the deal.

Space is limited! Be sure to RSVP to ucopfamilyresource@gmail.com by Friday, Sept. 20, to reserve your spot. Following the presentation, individual consultations will be available from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

McDaniels, of Better Homes and Gardens/Mason McDuffie (Berkeley Regional Office), will provide an overview of the Bay Area home-buying process. She will offer strategies and tools to help prospective first-time homebuyers find a suitable property. A San Francisco native and former PTA president, McDaniels is knowledgeable about neighborhoods and market dynamics in the East Bay and greater Bay Area.

Hatfield, of Oakland-based DHR Investment Council, has been in financial services for nearly 20 years, serving in a variety of sales, marketing and consulting roles to financial advisors and wealth planners. Her presentation will cover the financial aspects of home buying, including juggling student loans with mortgages and financing options for the homebuyer who does not have enough money to make a 20 percent down payment.
