UCOP offices closed Saturday, Dec. 21, through Wednesday, Jan. 1

All UCOP offices will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, through Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, except for essential services. Offices will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.

Winter holidays are observed on Dec. 24 and 25, and New Year holidays are observed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The closure period this year includes four, rather than the usual three, non-holidays on Dec. 23, 26, 27 and 30.

Policy allows eligible employees to use either vacation, compensatory time (if available), or leave without pay to cover for the four workdays during the closure. If you have not accumulated sufficient vacation leave by December to cover those days, arrangements will be made to allow you to borrow against future vacation time to cover them.

(University policies related to vacation and curtailment leave allow the use of three vacation days in advance of actual accrual. This year, system-wide HR has approved an exception to policy to allow the use of four vacation days in advance of actual accrual during the closure.)

For exclusively represented employees, the Office of Labor Relations will notify unions about the leave schedule.

Each vice president may determine whether there are essential services that must be maintained during this time period and plan for staffing accordingly.
