Lean In May 1: Seek and speak your truth

Lean In book coverThe Lean In series of facilitated conversations about women’s empowerment in the workplace continues Thursday, May 1, 12 to 1 p.m. in the Laurel Room, 1111 Broadway, 7th floor.

The events are sponsored by the President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (PACSW) and inspired by the book Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg. But you don’t need to read the book to participate.

This month’s topic is based on Sandberg’s sixth chapter, Seek and Speak your Truth. PACSW members Rachael Howard, Monica Lin and Mary Anne Rasmussen will facilitate the conversation around such topics as:

  • What can we do as individuals to be more authentic at work?
  • What can you do to help others feel comfortable giving and receiving feedback?
  • What level of showing emotion is appropriate in the workplace?
  • How can you contribute to creating a safe place for others to speak up?

In case you haven’t heard, organizers of the series have been recognized with a UCOP Innovation and Impact Award in the category of Commitment to OP Culture and Principles. They include Jocelyn Banaria (Institutional Research and Academic Planning), Angela Hom (Information Technology Services) and Lena Zentall (California Digital Library).

Check the Link calendar or the PACSW Lean In page for remaining dates for the monthly sessions through October. You can register in advance for any or all of them through the UC Learning Center to assure yourself a spot; just search for Lean In to enroll in any session.

The Laurel Room is across the street from the Franklin Building at the California Endowment, on the 7th floor of 1111 Broadway. Feel free to bring your lunch and join the conversation.
