Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and and Interim Chief Operating Officer Nathan Brostrom is the recipient of the 2014 Outstanding Senior Leader Award from the Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA), the UC systemwide staff organization of which OP Staff Assembly is a member.

In presenting the award on Oct. 30, CUCSA Chair Rob Kerner of UC Davis quoted the nomination submitted by OP Staff Assembly: “UCOP is a better place to work because of [Brostrom’s] efforts to support staff, promote inclusion and foster stronger communications between senior leaders and staff.”

Brostrom was recognized for his steadfast support of OP Staff Assembly and all staff at UCOP and for serving as “a catalyst in building OP’s community and supporting an inclusive work environment.” Key contributions cited included his sponsorship of UC’s Staff Engagement Survey; hands-on leadership and approachability during several years of reorganization and budget cuts; personal participation in social events; promotion of increased visibility of staff achievements; and robust communications between staff and OP leadership.

CUCSA established the award in 2010 to recognize senior level leaders who are supportive and inclusive of UC staff and encourage equity, diversity and community. Previous awardees include UC Santa Cruz Chancellor George Blumenthal, UC Riverside Chancellor Tim White and UC Santa Barbara Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Michael Young.

An advisory body comprised of two staff delegates from each campus, Berkeley Lab and UCOP, CUCSA meets quarterly at different campuses to promote communication within the staff community. It has had significant involvement in presenting staff perspective on management initiatives and has addressed the Regents on such topics as budget, student fee policies, capital programs and domestic partner benefits.

OP Staff Assembly is an all-volunteer staff organization dedicated to promoting the interests and welfare of all career employees. All staff are invited to attend OP Staff Assembly meetings, held the second Wednesday of each month (see Link calendar for location of specific meetings.)
