OGC’s annual bake sale Nov. 25: Place orders, buy raffle tickets today!

The Office of the General Counsel’s (OGC) annual pre-Thanksgiving charity bake sale, raffle and silent auction is almost as much a tradition as Turkey Day itself.

This year is the event’s 29th year, and you will notice one big change. It takes place not on Wednesday, but Tuesday, Nov. 25, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in and around 8112 Franklin. (Click link to add event to your calendar.) The raffle will take place at 1 p.m. that day.

You can pre-order pies from Nation’s and rolls from Taste of Denmark (see price list) and buy raffle tickets ($2 each, or three for $5) in the Franklin lobby from noon to 1 p.m. The booth will be staffed at lunchtime every day through Monday, Nov. 24. If you are not able to come to the Franklin building during that time, contact Damyanti Naicker at Damyanti.Naicker@ucop.edu to place your orders. Note that the deadline for placing orders for baked goods has been extended to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Silent auction items this year will feature lunches with UCOP executives, including President Napolitano, gift certificates and more. And the bake sales are a great opportunity to purchase some tasty treats for your holiday table and support worthy local charities at the same time. Proceeds from this year’s events will be divided primarily between two local charities:

  • Covenant House California, an Alameda County social services organization whose mission is to assist needy families by providing year-round food, shelter, clothing and other services.
  • First Place for Youth, a Northern California–based organization founded in 1998 that provides affordable housing and other support to former foster youth and is a national model for programs supporting high-risk youth.

A portion of the proceeds is also being earmarked for the East Bay SPCA, the East Bay’s nonprofit organization dedicated to the welfare of cats and dogs by preventing cruelty, neglect and overpopulation.

If you would like to contribute baked goods for the sale, donate items for the silent auction or raffle, make a donation to one of these charities or get additional information, please contact Tiffany Wilson at Tiffany.Wilson@ucop.edu or Charlie Malarkey Charles.Malarkey@ucop.edu.

I’m not familiar with Nation’s Bakery – who/where are they?

Nation’s is a chain of restaurants somewhat similar to Marie Callender’s, depending on location.
