Birthday cake for UC Natural Reserve System’s 50th year

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the UC Natural Reserve System when NRS staff cuts birthday cake in the Franklin lobby 12 to 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22.

It was exactly 50 years ago that day — Jan. 22, 1965 — that the Education Policy Committee of the UC Regents voted to establish the Natural Land and Water Reserve System with seven reserves. Today, that network has grown to 39 reserves, including more than 756,000 acres of California land for preservation and research.

There will be enough cake for about the first 100 people. First come, first served!

You can also learn more about other events coming up this August to continue the anniversary celebration and increase awareness of the Natural Reserve System. These will include a virtual field trip to the NRS (Aug. 10) and fair (Aug. 11) featuring gelato stations and games as well as prizes and giveaways.

Come get a piece of cake next Thursday and learn more about UC’s Natural Reserve System.
