UC launches online Information Center

Information on student diversity, graduation rates and how UC’s affordability stacks up against its peer institutions is just some of the information that is now easily explored through the university’s new Information Center.

The online repository features interactive data tables and data-driven storyboards that allow the public to easily learn about a host of UC topics.

“As a public institution, we always want to be as transparent and accountable as we can be — that was the primary impetus for creating the Information Center,” said Pamela Brown, UC’s vice president of institutional research and academic planning, the systemwide office that developed the site.

“When people explore UC’s data, they will see what many of us already know: The university plays a major role in promoting social mobility among California families, and contributing to the economic development of the state and the nation,” Brown said.

The website features a wealth of historic and current data, including:

  • Admissions data by UC campus, student income level, ethnicity and more
  • Alumni outcomes, including fields of employment and average salaries
  • UC’s role as a research powerhouse — the university conducts one-tenth of all academic research in the nation

The site will continue to expand in the coming months. Brown said her office expects to update the Information Center with interactive data dashboards on UC’s role in research, health care, economic growth and trends in university funding.

The intent of the Information Center is to make it easier for the public to access commonly-sought UC data and augment other transparency efforts already underway, including the university’s Accountability Report and UC’s annual Budget for Current Operations.
