A message from COO Rachael Nava: Salary increases

I am happy to tell you that President Napolitano has authorized a 3 percent salary increase for policy-covered (non-represented) staff for the 2015-16 fiscal year. The effective dates of the increases for UCOP employees are June 21, 2015, for employees who are paid on a biweekly basis, and July 1, 2015, for monthly paid employees. UCOP Local Human Resources is working with OP departments to implement this year’s salary increases as soon as possible. Our goal is for eligible employees to see the increase reflected in their August 26 pay for biweekly paid employees, and in the September 1 pay for monthly paid employees.

As the president noted in her letter to the UC community last month, one of the benefits of the recent budget agreement between UC and the state is that it allows us to budget for annual pay increases for faculty and non-represented staff over the next several years. Additionally, the funding provided by the budget agreement will also allow us to make merit-based pay a more regular component of our salary programs, which helps us recognize employees’ contributions. UCOP will implement a merit-based pay program beginning next year, and you’ll be hearing more about that in the months ahead.

If you have any questions about this year’s increase, please feel free to contact your department’s Human Resources business partner.

As always, thank you very much for your continued commitment and efforts to further the university’s mission of education, research and public service.

Sincerely,
Rachael Nava
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
