Excel help at your fingertips

Struggling with Excel? Assistance is at the other end of an email. In response to a suggestion sent to the Efficiency Review, UCOP now has a pilot Excel Help Listserve.

Five UCOP volunteers with expertise in Excel 2010 (our current version) have stepped up to answer questions sent to HELP-EXCEL-L@listserv.ucop.edu. All volunteers will receive the email, and whomever responds first will reply to all so that work is not duplicated. These email responses will form the beginnings of a knowledge base of Excel Q&A.

Some requests or questions may involve further research or discussion, but most will be resolved quickly.

Depending on the success of this pilot, others may be created to provide support for widely used applications, such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio and Project.

So if you have a question, or are struggling with how to accomplish something specific in Excel 2010, try emailing the team.

this is a great idea! however, when I tried to send a question, this is the automatic reply I received:

You are not authorized to send mail to the HELP-EXCEL-L list from your Jan.Kehoe@UCOP.EDU account. You might be authorized to post to the list from another account, or perhaps when using another mail program configured to use a different email address. However, LISTSERV has no way to associate this other account or address with yours. If you need assistance or if you have any questions regarding the policy of the HELP-EXCEL-L list, please contact the list owners at HELP-EXCEL-L-request@LISTSERV.UCOP.EDU.

I tried to email the list owners, but received the same message…
