Vice President of Human Resources Dwaine Duckett sent the following email to UCOP staff on March 31:

Dear UCOP colleagues:

It is with considerable sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of a dear colleague, Linda Klink. Linda had been ill, and her family notified us of her passing on Tuesday. She will be greatly missed.

Linda came to the Office of the President after a long career in training and development. Before joining OP, Linda worked at UCSF where she contributed to a variety of training and development initiatives. Prior to that, Linda had an extensive career with the Longs Drugs Pharmacy chain here on the West Coast. Linda’s contributions here at the Office of the President were particularly impactful as she was one of the first official members of OP Local Human Resources, helping to launch the extremely popular OP Leadership Development Program as well as the staff Mentorship Program, both of which she helped me conceptualize, design, implement and manage. She tirelessly continued to evolve and strengthen these flagship programs after their initial launch.

I’m sure many of you know Linda through her leadership in these programs, but her contributions went far beyond, and UCOP will continue to benefit from her work well into the future. I personally thank her for her caring, effort and commitment.

When or if details of services for Linda become known via her family, we will share them. Meanwhile, please join me in reflecting on and acknowledging Linda’s contributions to UCOP.

Sincerely,
Dwaine B. Duckett
Vice President
Systemwide Human resources

Linda will certainly be missed here at UCOP. Her kind and friendly demeanor helped numerous staff navigate (and graduate from) the Leadership Development Program and the Mentorship Program with significantly improved skill sets. She was very thoughtful, and always open to new ideas on improving training programs. I was shocked to hear of her passing, and saddened that we lost such a great person and friend. RIP.

Linda always offered a warm smile and was always willing to help. She was friendly and thoughtful. I will always remember the travel tips she provided me when I was going to Italy. She made the best recommendations and shared her experience traveling to Italy and how much she enjoyed the times she was there. You will be missed.

Linda brightened our halls with her smile and spirit and tirelessly kept UCOP engaged in learning and development. She loved her job and it showed. I always enjoyed our professional collaborations and I learned so much from her. She was a wise and encouraging mentor to me and countless others. I will miss our check-ins when she sat in the office next to me — I always looked forward to hearing about her latest adventure. Many of us here at OP feel this loss deeply and will cherish our memories of Linda.
