UCOP gives back: Volunteer at an Oakland school for four hours

Can you give four hours to help out an Oakland school?

The Office of the President, Professional Community (OPPC), in collaboration with the Asian and Pacific Islander Staff Association (APISA) and the Family Resource Network (FRN), is coordinating a back-to-school volunteer day:

DATE: Friday, Aug. 19
TIME: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
LOCATION: ASCEND Elementary School

ASCEND Elementary School is an arts-integrated K-8 school that emphasizes family and community partnerships. The mission of ASCEND is to close the achievement gap in Oakland. To make a positive difference in the lives of young people, ASCEND offers engaging and rigorous instruction and builds strong relationships between parents, teachers/staff, students and the community. ASCEND develops leaders and mentors who create a more compassionate, equitable and just society.

Let’s celebrate ASCEND’s mission by contributing to it. In 2015, President Napolitano approved four hours a month for UCOP employees to volunteer, provided that they receive prior approval from their supervisor. At this event, volunteers will help set up furniture and school materials in eight brand-new classrooms. This opportunity is limited to 20 volunteers. Transportation will be coordinated with fellow staff members closer to the day.

If you would like to participate in this volunteer opportunity or have questions, please contact Kay Francesca Coelho at kay.coelho@ucop.edu.
