Volunteer to beautify an Oakland school on Sept. 23

Here’s a fun way to give back to our community: Join your UCOP colleagues in supporting a model elementary school here in Oakland.

In September, we are partnering with the Emerson Child Development Center, which focuses on the whole child by creating a positive learning environment that meets not just the academic but the social and emotional needs of its students. As an Oakland public school, Emerson strongly supports the belief that people learn in many different ways and that all are capable of excellence. As a result, their approach focuses on engaging and reaching every learner.

Join your UCOP colleagues and support this wonderful school’s mission by volunteering to beautify (with stencil and paint) their developmentally conscious playground.

DATE: Friday, Sept. 23
TIME: 12 to 4 p.m.
LOCATION: 4803 Lawton Ave., Oakland

We encourage carpooling to the event! Our planning team will coordinate transportation closer to volunteer project day.

This volunteer activity is sponsored by the Office of the President Professional Community (OPPC) affinity group. If you would like to participate or if you have any questions, please contact OPPC Founder/Chair Kay Francesca Coelho at kay.coelho@ucop.edu.

Keep in mind that President Napolitano has approved UCOP employee participation in volunteer work for up to four hours per month, provided the employee receives prior approval from their supervisor.
