Brown bag Wednesday: The challenges of being a caregiver

Are you currently a caregiver for an older adult or do you expect to be in the future?

Come to a brown bag led by Elder Care Counselor Maureen Kelly to learn about:

  • Specific challenges related to caring for an older adult, including roles and responsibilities of the caregiver and other family members
  • The caregiver-care receiver relationship
  • Expectations you and others have of you
  • Feeling responsible but not having control

Strategies for self-care will be shared, and resources will be provided.

Kelly is the elder care counselor for faculty and staff at UC Berkeley’s Be Well at Work. She earned her doctorate in education from the University of San Francisco, where her research focus was on caregiver stress. She received her MSW from Catholic University in Washington D.C, with an emphasis in gerontology. She has been helping elders and their families for over 30 years.

This brown bag is the first in a new speaker series on health and wellness sponsored by the President’s Advisory Council on the Status of Women.
