Nineteen staff members from UCOP’s Office of the Chief Financial Office volunteered last week to help sort and bag more than 20,000 pounds of food at the Alameda County Food Bank.

The staff from the Financial Accounting team and the Capital Assets Strategies and Finance group spent part of their day on Tuesday, Aug. 7 helping to prepare meals for the community. Together, volunteers that day sorted and bagged:

  • 2,064 pounds of rice
  • 2,084 pounds of onions
  • 2,571 pounds of potatoes
  • 15,956 pounds of apples

“That is a grand total of 22,675 pounds — the equivalent of over 18,500 meals for our community — all thanks to your hard work,” wrote Tessa Boyce, volunteer services associate at the food bank, in an email to the group. “Thank you again for your time, energy and dedication. We run on your support and partnership and simply wouldn’t be able to do our work without you!”

This is the first time the group has volunteered at the food bank, and they plan to return in the future.
