Chancellor Kim Wilcox brings the world of Riverside to UCOP

On Wednesday, July 10, the OP Staff Assembly welcomed UC Riverside Chancellor Kim Wilcox to UCOP for the third Chancellor Chat of 2019. The event drew a full room in Oakland — including President Janet Napolitano and Chief Operating Officer Rachael Nava — with 125 additional participants tuning in online.

Chancellor Wilcox’s inspiring and lighthearted address was filled with passion for his campus and UC. “Everyone seems to now understand and appreciate the tremendous success we’ve had with students,” Chancellor Wilcox said. Were one of the few, if any, research universities in the country where all of our students graduate at about the same rate — our African-American students, our Caucasian students and our Pell students graduate at the same rate as our nonPell students.

He also discussed why it’s important to invest in faculty, how UC Riverside’s land properties and community partnerships could be a boon for UC, why the city of Riverside could offer a profitable new frontier for the IT industry and why he doesn’t believe in getting stuck on college rankings. Plus, he introduced a new UC Riverside invention — mosquito-repellant wearable patches made from food-safe ingredients.
