UC Chief Compliance Officer Sheryl Vacca speaks next Monday

Did you know that, in addition to being a national expert in the field of corporate compliance and auditing, UCOP’s Sheryl Vacca is also an intensive care registered nurse and a bass trombone player?

Learn more about her career path next Monday, June 17, when Senior Vice President–Chief Compliance and Audit Officer Vacca gives the next talk in the Women We Admire series, 12 to 1 p.m. in Franklin Lobby 1 Conference Room.

If you are unable to attend in person, you can listen in by phone through ReadyTalk; dial 866-740-1260 and enter access code 7226879#.

Vacca oversees the university’s Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services, which functions as an independent office reporting directly to the UC Regents. In this role, she oversees the systemwide internal audit and compliance functions and reports to UC’s senior leadership and regents on the university’s compliance with rules, regulations and policies, and cultural tone.

Prior to joining UCOP in 2007, Vacca was a director-partner at Deloitte and Touche LLP, a global audit and management consulting firm. There she led the internal audit health care practice and was regional regulatory national lead for the Pacific Southwest. Prior to joining Deloitte, she was vice president of compliance and internal audit for Sutter Health.

Vacca is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Health Care Compliance Association Pinnacle Award and the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics Award for significant contributions to the compliance and ethics profession. She holds positions on several association boards and is a published author and international speaker on compliance and audit issues.

Vacca earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Eastern Washington University and a master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University. She was also a captain in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.

The President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women initiated the Women We Admire speaker series in 2009 to bring women to UCOP from around the UC system to share insights about their careers, workplace challenges and work–life balance.

Events are open to all members of the UCOP community, and both men and women are invited to learn more about how to make the most of working at UC. Find other speakers in the series and archived audio of past talks on the website.
