SUMMARY:Sustainability at home: Creating a spring herb and vegetable garden
DESCRIPTION:The UCOP Sustainability Affinity Group\, in partnership with the UCOP Department of Energy and Sustainability\, invite the UC community to participate in “Sustainability at Home”\, a three-part virtual speaker series event in celebration of Earth Month (April). \nPart one of the speaker series will kick-off on Wednesday\, February 24th from 12-1pm with a presentation by UC Master Gardener\, Shilpa Thanawala. UC Master Gardeners are volunteers trained and certified by the University of California to provide research-based information about home horticulture and pest management. They serve their communities by answering questions from the public\, teaching workshops\, leading plant clinics\, and speaking on a variety of subjects. \n\n\nDuring this one hour presentation\, Shilpa will demonstrate how we can be sustainable at home by planting spring herbs and vegetables (Her tomatoes in containers are legendary!) and answer any gardening questions you may have. So\, grab a fork and join us for this lunchtime presentation! \nThe celebration continues next month with a UC Master Composter presentation on recycling and composting and concludes in April with a presentation on canning\, pickling and dehydration by UC Master Food Preservers. \n\n\nWatch the event video\n\n\nDownload the presentation slide deck\n\n\nShilpa Thanawala has been a Master Gardener of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties since 2013. Do you have questions regarding home horticulture and pest management? Send your questions to\, “Ask a Master Gardner”. Want to become a Master Gardener? Find a UC Master Gardener Program near you. \nTo learn more about the Sustainability Affinity Group\, please contact Michael Aires at michael.aires@ucop.edu or Donna Seaward at donna.seaward@ucop.edu.
