UCOP Authentic Antiracist Leadership

Thursday, April 10, 10:00 am12:00 pm

Facilitated by highly regarded trainer, Dr. Rachelle Rogers-Ard, this course focuses on anti-racist leadership praxis. Key elements include interrogation of systemic and interpersonal racism, problems of leadership practice, management, and leadership. Participants will be asked to consider leadership through an anti-racist lens, which requires a deep understanding of the country’s legacy of racism, whiteness, white supremacy, and anti-Blackness. The facilitator will present leadership theories, asking participants to grapple with leadership as often presented with patriarchal, white framing, then will then offer the facilitator’s HEART model to challenge and shift participants’ thinking around their own leadership.

Participants will:

  • Understand the foundational components of leadership
  • Grapple with leading vs. managing
  • Name and identify racist systemwide policies, practices, and behaviors
  • Use the HEART model to inform leadership praxis
  • Develop a professional learning community through sharing and listening to varying perspectives
  • Deeply reflect on one’s interactions with race and the ways it impacts one’s leadership

Participants are required to attend the entirety of both sessions on April 10 and 17 and are expected to be fully engaged and on camera.
