DESCRIPTION:The Climate Solutions Summit will be hosted by UC Irvine at the Beckman Center on Wednesday\, May 30. Summit participants will help identify socially meaningful research priorities\, important problems and solutions\, as well as ways to improve public communication. Through this effort\, the summit will foster a more diverse\, inclusive and impactful set of partnerships to develop climate solutions to problems facing our local community. \nThe summit will include two keynote presentations given by Ecology Professor and Chair Kathleen Treseder and Anaheim Councilwoman Kris Murray. SUMMARY:Hospice: A holistic approach to end of life care
DESCRIPTION:This session is an introduction to hospice care\, including its basic philosophy\, when hospice is appropriate\, and what services are provided. Special attention will be paid to the holistic experience of hospice\, as well as the roles of the hospice team in providing emotional and spiritual support for patients and their loved ones. This session is intended for anyone with an interest in learning more about hospice care. \nReverend Benjamin S. Bigney\, a board-certified chaplain who serves as a spiritual care counselor at Hospice East Bay\, will be the guest speaker. A native of Bangor\, Maine\, he moved to the Bay Area in 2010 to pursue a career in health care chaplaincy. He attended Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley and completed his clinical residency at UCSF Medical Center. Aside from his interest in spiritual care\, Bigney is a jazz pianist and loves spending time outside. He lives in Oakland with his partner and their loveable but feisty Rottweiler Mei-Mei.

DESCRIPTION:UC Walks in Oakland \nUC Walks returns for its ninth year\, bringing together faculty\, staff\, students and retirees system wide to take a walk\, share wellness tips and enjoy the spring sunshine. Join your UCOP colleagues to walk a portion of Lake Merritt together — from the lawn bowling courts to the pergola (columns) and back– about a 40 minute round trip. \nUC Walks kicks off in Lakeside Park with warm-up stretches\, games and snacks. To find UCOP’s meeting place\, take Grand Ave. to Bellevue Ave. and turn right into the park. Signs and balloons will guide you to the event. UC’s medical and behavioral health plan vendors will be on hand with giveaways and information about wellness programs\, and every participant will receive a free UC Walks t-shirt. \nShow your UC Walks spirit by sharing photos of you and your colleagues on Twitter\, using the hashtag #UCWalks.
