Light refreshments will be provided. The talk is organized by the Asian Pacific Islander Staff Association. \n“Painting Is My Everything: Art from India’s Mithila Region\,” opens Sept. 7\, 2018 at the museum. Discover the bold artistic vision of 17 contemporary artists\, many of them women\, from the provincial Mithila region of India. Their visually delightful work has received commercial success\, bringing much-needed income to their families and catalyzing social change in the region. Working within a traditional painting style\, these artists address topics that are at once local and global\, personal and universal\, from reflections on piety to current events.

This is the week to get rid of all of those business and administrative records that have reached the end of their retention periods. While disposing of your paper records\, remember to also delete your electronic ones. \nCome to an open house hosted by the Records Management team at 9:30–10:30 a.m. Wednesday\, Aug. 8 in Franklin Room 5320. Refreshments will be available so please come\, have a little snack and discuss any records-related issue you want with the Team. \nTo learn how to use the UC records retention schedule\, what to toss or shred\, and how to send inactive records to off-site storage\, check out Records Management’s website for helpful tips and recorded webinars. SUMMARY:Short film screening "Finding Cleveland" and discussion
DESCRIPTION:Come to a screening of Baldwin Chiu’s documentary short film “Finding Cleveland” that uncovers the seldom-told history of the early Chinese immigrants in the Mississippi Delta during the time of segregation and the Chinese Exclusion Act. The film takes the audience on an emotional journey as seen through the eyes of Charles Chiu and his family as they take a trip to Cleveland\, Mississippi to visit the gravesite of Chiu’s father. In less than 48 hours\, Chiu has many surprising encounters with the local townspeople\, who help fill in some blanks about the father he never knew. \nLarissa Lam\, a producer of the film\, will be present to discuss the documentary. \nThe film screening and discussion are sponsored by the Asian Pacific Islander Staff Association.

SUMMARY:Hospice: A holistic approach to end of life care
DESCRIPTION:This session is an introduction to hospice care\, including its basic philosophy\, when hospice is appropriate\, and what services are provided. Special attention will be paid to the holistic experience of hospice\, as well as the roles of the hospice team in providing emotional and spiritual support for patients and their loved ones. This session is intended for anyone with an interest in learning more about hospice care. \nReverend Benjamin S. Bigney\, a board-certified chaplain who serves as a spiritual care counselor at Hospice East Bay\, will be the guest speaker. A native of Bangor\, Maine\, he moved to the Bay Area in 2010 to pursue a career in health care chaplaincy. He attended Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley and completed his clinical residency at UCSF Medical Center. Aside from his interest in spiritual care\, Bigney is a jazz pianist and loves spending time outside. He lives in Oakland with his partner and their loveable but feisty Rottweiler Mei-Mei.
