BSFO Film Series: Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin Bayard Rustin, a master strategist and the organizer of the 1963 March on Washington, was instrumental in molding Martin Luther King Jr. into an international symbol of peace and nonviolence. But, he was also silenced and imprisoned due to being an openly gay man in a homophobic era. This documentary film has a run time of 90 minutes. BSFO Community Partnership: All Tied Up

Armand Carr, founder of All Tied Up, will share how his nonprofit organization empowers local young men of color, ages 13 to 21. Through the basic skills of tying a tie, All Tied Up teaches young men about leadership, self-respect and empathy. BSFO members Dena Bullard and Annette Holmes will share their family stories. Annette Holmes shares her family’s connection to “The Weeping Time” — the largest slave auction (436 women, men and children) held in 1859 at a racetrack in Savannah, Georgia. Dena Bullard tells the story of her Japanese grandmother’s experience living in an US-sanctioned internment camp in Arkansas. Dena will also discuss her family’s African American and Japanese heritage.
