President Yudof announces that UC will be tobacco-free by 2014

President Mark G. Yudof has announced a decision to make all UC campuses tobacco-free in two years. Read both the letter and the message from Nathan Brostrom, executive vice president of OP business operations, below:

Dear UCOP colleague:

I am writing to share with you the attached letter from President Yudof to UC chancellors regarding the University’s recent decision to make all UC campuses tobacco-free by 2014. The new policy, which also applies to UCOP, prohibits the smoking and chewing of tobacco, as well as the sale of tobacco products, and aligns with practices already in place at UC medical centers and other universities.

As the President’s letter indicates, each location will soon be developing their plans for implementing this decision, and we will have more information about what this new policy means for our community as the UCOP plan takes shape.

Sincerely,

Nathan
