Learn about Career Tracks, UCOP’s new job classification system

Find out about Career Tracks, UCOP’s new program to clarify job classifications and facilitate career paths, at a series of orientation sessions for all OP employees throughout the month of August.

The program will replace UCOP’s outdated job classification framework with a market-based system for all MSP and policy-covered PSS employees, said Dennis Larsen, executive director of Compensation Programs and Strategy, who is overseeing implementation. The goal is to group jobs into more clearly defined families that better align with comparable jobs in the labor market as well as jobs on UC campuses.

“Career Tracks will define jobs and job levels more clearly and consistently,” Larsen said. “This will provide more information — like relationships between jobs and transferable skills — that will help UCOP employees plan their careers in specific functional areas and across the UC system.”

UCOP managers and supervisors have been briefed and are in the process of developing new job templates for all MSP and policy-covered PSS positions in their areas. Similar programs have been successfully implemented at other UC locations, Larsen said, and the vision is to have systems like Career Tracks at all UC campuses and medical centers in the future.

The 90-minute information sessions, which began on Aug. 6, are voluntary and take place in Franklin Lobby 1 Conference Room and via ReadyTalk webinar as follows:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 14: 9 to 10:30 am
  • Tuesday, Aug. 14: 10:30 am to 12 pm

At this time, Career Tracks is being implemented for policy-covered, or non-represented, positions only, although any employee is welcome to attend the information sessions.
