Enroll now: June professional development classes

Plan ahead now for several classes being offered in June by UCOP HR Learning and Development, including Introductory PowerPoint, Presenting with Confidence, Influencing without Authority and a new class in Microsoft Publisher.

All workshops take place in the Franklin building and are now open for enrollment through the UCOP Learning Center.

Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint, Tuesday, June 4, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 7107 Franklin
Microsoft PowerPoint is a powerful software that helps you develop persuasive, dynamic slideshow presentations combining graphics, text and animation effects. You will learn to expedite presentation creation with the outline mode, masters and templates tools.

Basic Microsoft Publisher 2007, Tuesday, June 11, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 7107 Franklin
This course, new to UCOP, focuses on the core features and functions of Publisher 2007. You will learn how to create and edit publications, arrange text and pictures, work with master pages and create and format tables. Other topics covered include flowing text across text boxes, creating a facing-pages layout, exporting publications to PDF and preparing publications for commercial printing.

Presenting with Confidence, Tuesday, June 18, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 11326 Franklin
This full-day interactive workshop is the class for you if making a presentation keeps you up at night. It will help you initiate the process of delivering more effective presentations by learning the value of planning and designing a presentation with essential components, by understanding the concept of “presentation presence,” and by identifying your strengths and challenges as a presenter.

Influencing without Authority, Thursday, June 20, 1 to 5 p.m., 9204 Franklin
This workshop teaches the keys to influence and techniques for effectively exercising influence, even when you may not have formal authority. The workshop covers strategies including reciprocity, communicating to influence and influencing styles. You learn how to select the most appropriate strategy for a given situation as well as interpersonal and leadership skills to help you manage the complex dynamics of the workplace.

To register for any of these classes, go to the UC Learning Center:

  • Log in using your UCOP login and password.
  • Using the Search box on the left, type in the name of the class you want; that will bring up Results of Search.
  • Click the session you want, then click on the Register box and Submit.
