Involved in writing policy? Learn about UC’s new process
The Policy Project is now under way at UCOP, part of UC’s Working Smarter Initiative that will implement a new process for writing official policies.
In conjunction with this effort, the Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services is holding several events to train departments on rewriting policies into the new official template. The training events kicked off Monday, Aug. 8, with a policy master class attended by more than 50 representatives from most of the UC campuses and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.
The event featured representatives from the University of Minnesota and Oakland’s Kaiser Permanente Corporate Headquarters in Oakland speaking on the policy processes at their institutions. Nancy Capell, director of systemwide policy, described the new UC policy process and the new direction on Presidential Delegations of Authority. Campus Policy Managers Meta Clow (UCSB) and Molly Theodossy (UCD) also took the group through policy writing exercises.
If you are interested in learning more, a streamlined version of the course will be held Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch provided. Nancy Capell, UCOP’s systemwide policy director, and Molly Theodossy, UC Davis investigator and policy coordinator, will make presentations on the new UCOP Policy Process, including the Policy Toolkit. They also will conduct a hands-on exercise (from material developed by Meta Clow, UCSB) on UC policy development, using the topic of “social media” as a focal point.
Additional workshops focusing on helping policy owners transfer current and proposed policies into the new template will be held on the following dates and times in 7409 Franklin:
- Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
- Thursday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Tuesday, Nov. 15, 8:30 to 10 a.m.
