Business Officer Institute nominations due Friday, Oct. 5

Each year, UC has a unique opportunity to develop its business officers through the annual UC Business Officer Institute (BOI), a four-day residential program for business officers in the UC system.

The 2012 BOI is now soliciting nominations for participants in this year’s event, scheduled for Monday, Nov. 26, through Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Parc 55-Wyndham Hotel in San Francisco. Nominations are being sought from each UC location, including UCOP, and must be received by the close of business Friday, Oct. 5.

The conference offers plenary session presentations and small-group discussions of case studies, through which participants explore everyday issues and challenges that business officers face in the workplace.

Requirements for BOI candidates

Strong candidates for the BOI program have “broad decision-making and/or supervisory responsibility or accountability for [a given] academic or administrative department for budget, finance, internal controls, human resources, systems or sponsored projects.”

To be eligible for nomination, candidates should also have at least six months of full-time UC service and must be classified at the professional and support staff (PSS) or managers and senior professionals (MSP) level. Any candidate who has previously attended a northern or southern session of the BOI is not eligible for this year’s program.

The program begins on Monday evening, as in previous years; participants register onsite from 4 to 6 p.m., and the program runs through Thursday at 4 p.m.

How to make a nomination

For UCOP’s available BOI slots, please nominate UCOP business officers who would benefit from attending according to the criteria described above. The selection committee will review all nominations and identify qualified participants from a variety of units.

To nominate a UCOP business officer, send an email with a brief statement describing the nominee’s qualifications to Linda Klink, manager, UCOP Learning and Development, at linda.klink@ucop.edu, and include the following information:

  • Nominee’s name
  • Title (payroll)

  • Participant’s manager’s name
  • Manager’s title
