Meeting today: Explore the power of project management

Too much work? Too little time? Join UCOP’s Project Management Interest Group (PMIG) for their monthly brown bag meetings the first Tuesday of each month, which alternate between the Franklin and Kaiser buildings.
PMIG is an affinity group that launched in 2009 to provide support and share best practices and tools for getting work done more quickly and effectively. In case you missed their October roundtable at Kaiser, PMIG is repeating the event with three Franklin-based UCOP staff who have experience working with project management tools.
This month’s meeting takes place today, Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 12 to 1 p.m. in 10325 Franklin. It features a roundtable discussion on the value that project management training, methodologies and tools can bring to projects, departments and organizations.
Panelists include:
- Karla Campbell, director of operations, Center of Operation Excellence
- Shelley Dommer, content manager, Institutional Research
- Cathy O’Sullivan, director, Working Smarter
The panelists will speak briefly about their role in the organization, then give examples of specific projects they have worked on using project management concepts and tools. The rest of the time will be dedicated to discussion and answering questions from attendees.
PMIG is already planning ahead for their December meeting, which will be held Tuesday, Dec. 4, in 712 Kaiser and feature Executive Vice President for Business Operations Nathan Brostrom speaking on the same topic.

Given we are the University of California shouldn’t the Communications staff know to capitalize someone’s working title? Karla Campbell is the Director of Operations, not the director of operations. The same would be true of Shelley and Cathy.
