Register now for 2013 Compliance and Audit Symposium
Compliance and audit professionals from all 10 UC campuses, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and UC Office of the President will gather in January and February for the biennial 2013 UC Compliance & Audit Symposium, now being offered for the third time.
This year’s symposium, Charting the Course for the Future, is expected to attract up to 400 staff to explore compliance and audit issues of concern to all UC locations. The event is sponsored by the Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services.
Dates for the conference are Monday, Jan. 28, to Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Hilton San Francisco Airport and Monday, Feb. 11, to Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Hilton Orange County/Costa Mesa. The conference is being held twice, once in northern California and once in the south, in order to keep travel costs low and make sure all interested UC employees can attend.
Both conferences offer similar content in three areas, with some variations. Opening day offers specialized sessions in areas including forensics, export control and international travel. The following day and a half covers compliance issues on such subjects as health care, response to student protests, research, lab safety and social media. The final day and a half focuses on audit issues in such areas as performance management, mobile device security, research risks and online education.
Also featured are general sessions with UC leadership speaking on such topics as higher education challenges and opportunities as well as organizational misconduct. Attendees may choose to attend any one or all three segments for a flat registration fee of $75. Continuing education credits will be offered.
The complete program and details on how to register and make your hotel reservations for either location can be found online. (Please bookmark these URLs, as there will be ongoing updates.) Be sure to save the dates and book hotel stays early to take advantage of special rates.
Note that the first 75 registrants will receive a copy of keynote speaker and UC Davis Professor Donald Palmer’s book, Normal Organizational Wrongdoing: A Critical Analysis of Theories of Misconduct in and by Organization.
