UCOP climate study concludes with nearly 80 percent response

Nearly 80 percent of UCOP employees responded to the UC Campus Climate Study last month. The survey, which has now concluded at UCOP, is part of the ongoing effort to survey all 420,000 faculty, staff and students at 13 UC locations through March 2013.

Total UCOP response rate was 79.5 percent, with rates ranging from 47 to 100 percent across divisions, as follows:

  • Academic Affairs: 61.1%
  • Business Operations: 63.6%
  • Chief Financial Officer: 100%
  • Ethics, Compliance & Audit Services: 85.7%
  • External Relations: 77.6%
  • General Counsel: 81.2%
  • Health Sciences & Services: 90.5%
  • Laboratory Management: 53.8%
  • President’s Immediate Office, Regents and Academic Senate: 100%
  • Treasurer’s Office: 47.3%

“I want to thank each of you who completed the survey,” said Executive Vice President for Business Operations Nathan Brostrom. “The data will help UCOP identify areas of both success and challenge in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all employees.”

The project consultant, Professor Sue Rankin of Penn State, will provide a summary report of the results and findings by location that will be published on the project website in spring 2013.

UC will receive a systemwide report of all the survey data, from which significant themes may emerge, and will also benefit from national data based on the more than 100 institutions Professor Rankin has already surveyed.

The UCOP Climate Council, which is chaired by EVP Brostrom, will use the data to identify goals for improving the working environment at UCOP and capitalizing on areas of success.

Congratulations to the two winners of iPads for the UCOP and Agriculture and Natural Resource locations. The winners are Student Affairs Public Programs Coordinator Andrea Helfer and Academic Personnel Policy Analyst Christie Farren.

Other staff who completed the survey are eligible for one of five $2,000 staff development grants, which will be awarded following the close of the systemwide survey in March 2013.
