Build your skills with classes this week, right here at UCOP
UCOP HR Learning and Development offers two classes this Thursday, both of which still have spaces available: Developing Employees through Delegation and Influencing without Authority, both half-day sessions taking place in the Franklin building.
Developing Employees through Delegation, Thursday, Dec. 13, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 12322 Franklin
This class emphasizes the importance of delegation as a management tool. When done well, delegation develops staff, increases workplace productivity and fosters accountability.
In this workshop, participants practice a structured approach to delegation and the necessary communication skills to ensure project/accountability commitment. Participants are asked to bring a list of current or anticipated projects for which they are accountable.
Influencing without Authority, Thursday, Dec. 13, 1 to 5 p.m., 5320 Franklin
In this workshop, you will learn the keys to the nature of power and influence as well as techniques for effectively exercising influence, even when you may not have formal authority to mandate action.
The workshop explores the primary strategies of influence, including reciprocity, communicating to influence and influencing styles. Students learn how to select the most appropriate strategy for a given situation. You will also learn interpersonal and leadership skills that will help you manage the complex relationship dynamics of the workplace.
