Women We Admire: UC police chiefs this Wednesday, Jan. 23

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a woman and a university campus police chief?
Find out this Wednesday, Jan. 23, when UC San Francisco Police Chief Pamela Roskowski and UC Merced Police Chief Rita Spaur join forces for the next talk in the Women We Admire series, 12 to 1 p.m. in Franklin Lobby 1 Conference Room.
Roskowski joined the UCSF police department in 2003. Under her leadership, UCSF has become one of 60 university police forces and the only UC force to receive advanced accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
Previously, she served as chief of police in Corvallis, Ore., for 13 years and as an officer in Palo Alto. Roskowski holds a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration.
Spaur in 2005 took on the responsibility of building the UC Merced police department. She previously served as an officer and sergeant on UC Santa Barbara’s police force, then as the first female police lieutenant at UC Davis.
Spaur began her career in 1973 as a deputy in the Boulder County Sheriff’s department. She later served in law enforcement at the University of Northern Colorado, and spent a year driving an 18-wheeler across the country. A graduate of the FBI National Academy, she holds a bachelor’s degree in education and an advanced degree in business management and organizational behavior.
The President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women initiated the Women We Admire speaker series in 2009 to bring women to UCOP from around the system to share insights about their careers, workplace challenges and work–life balance.
