Workshops still have openings: Change, Communication

Spaces are still available in two April UCOP Learning and Development workshops in Embracing Change and Essentials of Communication.

In addition, classes are coming up in May in Career Management and Presenting with Confidence. You can enroll any time through the UC Learning Center (see detailed instructions below).

Embracing Change, Wednesday, April 17, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Franklin Lobby 1 Conference Room

In this new half-day workshop, participants learn how to work and cope with change and help those around them do the same. Some people see change as an opportunity for growth, to learn about new things and shift the status quo. But some changes are harder to adjust to and lead to resistance and anger. You can take concrete steps to make change more palatable by understanding people’s hesitation, enlisting the help of others, setting up plans and managing stressors. These steps can also ensure that desired changes are implemented successfully.

Essentials of Communication, Tuesday, April 23, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 11326 Franklin

Would you like to communicate more easily and effectively with your manager and colleagues? In this interactive workshop, you will learn to assess your own communication patterns and how to respond to the communication styles of others. You will also practice giving and receiving constructive feedback.

Coming up in May:

Career Management, Part 1, Thursday, May 2, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 11326 Franklin

This two-part series will help you take charge of your career and achieve your career goals. Session 1 covers self assessment, development planning and resume writing. It is a prerequisite for session 2 (May 30), which covers learning to network, practice interviews and resume critiques.

Presenting with Confidence, Thursday, May 16, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 5320 Franklin

This full-day interactive workshop is the class for you if making a presentation keeps you up at night. It will help you initiate the process of delivering more effective presentations by learning the value of planning and designing a presentation with essential components, by understanding the concept of “presentation presence,” and by identifying your strengths and challenges as a presenter.
