Tamal Tuesday today: Celebrate Day of the Dead with LaSA
Join your UCOP colleagues today, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Franklin lobby, when UCOP’s Latino Staff Association (LaSA) will be selling tamales and baked goods in observation of El Día de los Muertos.
Also known as Day of the Dead, the holiday is widely celebrated in Mexico from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 and commemorates the memories of the deceased.
Pork, chicken and chili cheese tamales will be available for $2 each, supplied by “El Mal Envuelto” Jose Garcia, as well as home-baked desserts for $1 each. There will also be a Día de Los Muertos display with a box for personal notes; you can write a little note about a loved one you have lost and place it in the box. (Notes will remain private and be discarded following the event.)
There will be no pre-orders for this event, but LaSA is planning a similar sale in December, and pre-orders will be available at that event.
LaSA raises funds throughout the year to donate to underprivileged Latino students in the East Bay. A similar event LaSA held on Sept. 16 raised $267, so join your UCOP colleagues in celebrating one of Mexico’s biggest holidays and supporting a good cause at the same time.
