UC children’s hospitals rank among nation’s best

The University of California’s three children’s hospitals — Davis, Los Angeles and San Francisco — all rank among the nation’s top pediatric hospitals, according to the new 2011–12 Best Children’s Hospitals survey conducted by U.S. News & World Report.

This year’s survey evaluates the top 50 U.S. hospitals in 10 pediatric specialties.

Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital each were recognized for excellence in nine of the 10 categories, while UC Davis Children’s Hospital ranked in one specialty.

In addition, UC’s two other medical center campuses are affiliated with ranked children’s hospitals: UC Irvine is affiliated with Children’s Hospital of Orange County (ranked in eight specialties) and UC San Diego is affiliated with Rady Children’s Hospital (ranked in all 10 specialties).

The rankings for Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA include kidney disorders (No. 6), gastroenterology (9), diabetes and endocrinology (11), heart and heart surgery (16), orthopedics (19), neurology and neurosurgery (23), neonatology (24), cancer (26) and urology (39).
