Women We Admire: UCSF’s Renee Navarro March 19

Join your UCOP colleagues for the next Women We Admire brown bag lunch with UCSF Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Outreach J. Renee Navarro, Pharm.D., M.D., on Monday, March 19, 12 to 1 p.m. in Franklin Lobby One Conference Room.

Navarro was appointed UCSF’s first Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Outreach in December 2010, charged with developing and executing a strategic plan for diversity and outreach at the San Francisco campus. She serves as a campus expert on diversity initiatives and best practices and leads the effort in recruiting and retaining faculty, students, trainees and staff.

After completing her medical degree and residency at UCSF, Navarro joined the Department of Anesthesia faculty in 1990. Since then, she has held several clinical leadership positions at San Francisco General Hospital, including acting chief of Anesthesia, medical director of Perioperative Services and chief of Medical Staff.

Navarro’s work in mentoring, diversity and women’s leadership has been recognized locally and nationally. She has also served on the San Mateo Commissions on the Status of Women and Disabilities and is a steering committee member of the African American Health Initiative for San Francisco County.

Since 2009, PACSW has sponsored the Women We Admire series, in which women from around the UC system share their insights about their careers, workplace challenges and work-life balance. The events are open to all members of the UCOP community, and both men and women are invited to learn more about how to make the most of working at UC.
