Check out OGC’s pre-Thanksgiving bake sale and raffle Wednesday

It’s almost as much a tradition as Thanksgiving itself: The annual pre-Thanksgiving bake sale and raffle, a fundraiser for local charities sponsored by UCOP’s Office of the General Counsel (OGC), is now in its 27th year.

This year’s event takes place tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 21, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in and around 8112 Franklin. It’s a great opportunity to purchase some tasty treats for your Thanksgiving table. Be sure to arrive early for the best selection of home-baked goods, including a variety of cakes, pies, cookies and Thanksgiving-themed treats. Bagels and cream cheese and coffee will also be available for sale.  (Cash sales only, please.)

Everyone who attends the bake sale will receive one free raffle ticket to win a variety of fun prizes. Additional tickets can also be purchased today, from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Franklin lobby, from Damyanti Naicker (contact or 987-9943) or at the bake sale tomorrow. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.

Also in conjunction with the bake sale, OGC is hosting a silent auction for gift baskets, a handmade quilt and one of Lupe’s Luscious Chocolate Cakes, home-baked by UCOP President’s House Manager Lupe Jimenez.

Be sure to return to OGC at 1:30 p.m. for the raffle drawing and to find out whether you were the highest bidder for silent auction items. Silent auction and raffle winners must be present to claim any perishable items, which will otherwise be held for pick-up after Thanksgiving. Please be prepared to pay cash for any silent auction items.

All proceeds will go to two local charities:

  • Alameda County Community Food Bank, active in local hunger-relief efforts for 27 years, serves one in every six residents of Alameda County, nearly two-thirds of whom are children and seniors.
  • First Place for Youth, a Northern California–based organization founded in 1998 to provide affordable housing and other support to former foster youth, is a national model for programs supporting high-risk youth.

If you would like to contribute baked goods for the sale on Wednesday or make a donation to one of these charities, please contact Rosita Soriano at or 987-9950.
