April workshops: Conflict, change and communications

UCOP Learning and Development is offering several workshops in April, from conflict management to essentials of communications.

All classes listed here are offered in the Franklin building and still have openings. You can enroll at any time through the UC Learning Center (see instructions below).

Note that all UCOP Learning and Development communications and supervision workshops are conducted in an atmosphere of confidentiality. Attendees are asked to maintain confidentiality so that participants can feel open to discussing their issues and specific situations.

Conflict Management in the Workplace, Tuesday, April 16, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 12322 Franklin

Conflict is a natural occurrence in the workplace, ranging from differences of opinion to patterns of interaction between two people or heated disagreements. This new workshop provides useful tools for assessing conflict situations and your own style for handling conflict. When managed effectively, conflict can be used to spur innovation and productive change that supports rather than undermines the organization’s goals.

Embracing Change, Wednesday, April 17, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Franklin Lobby 1 Conference Room

In this new half-day workshop, participants learn how to work and cope with change and help those around them. Some people see change as an opportunity for growth, to learn about new things and shift the status quo. But some changes are harder to adjust to and lead to resistance and anger. You can take concrete steps to make change more palatable by understanding people’s hesitation, enlisting the help of others, setting up plans and managing stressors. These steps can also ensure that desired changes are implemented successfully.

Essentials of Communication, Tuesday, April 23, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 11326 Franklin

Would you like to communicate more easily and effectively with your manager and colleagues? In this interactive workshop, you will learn to assess your own communication patterns and how to respond to the communication styles of others. You will also practice giving and receiving constructive feedback.
