UC tops Washington Monthly rankings, emphasizing public service

The University of California once again topped Washington Monthly’s annual college rankings, which assess how well campuses serve the public interest.

UC San Diego placed first for the fourth straight year, and UC Riverside jumped to the second spot in this year’s ranking, which, unlike many other college lists, highlights institutions that emphasize public service.

UC Riverside rose to second from ninth in last year’s list. As in previous years, UC campuses dominate the rankings. Six UC campuses are among this year’s top 25 and eight are in the top 100: UC Berkeley ranked fifth; UCLA, 10th; UC Santa Barbara, 22nd; UC Davis, 23rd; UC Santa Cruz, 61st; and UC Irvine, 84th.

UC’s high rankings reflect a strong commitment to student affordability and access in an environment that produces world-class research, Washington Monthly said.
