10-second bio: Mark Cianca’s path to UCPath
Name: Mark Cianca
Title: Deputy Chief Information Officer and UCPath Program Co-Director
Department: Information Technology Services
Location: 12th floor, Kaiser Building (UCPath Central)
When I started working at UCOP: August 2011. I’m on a multi-location agreement from UC Santa Cruz.
What I do for UCOP in five words or less: Drive UCPath to unqualified success
Best part about working for OP: Working with bright and dedicated teams from across the system to deliver newer, more efficient administrative processes.
Something you don’t know about me: I was born in the same hospital as Hillary Rodham Clinton and grew up in the same town as Evel Knievel. I once could see Sarah Palin’s house from my backyard, and I ran into Julia Child in the town where I started my UC career (she was tall!).
One weird fact about the place I grew up in: Butte, Montana, has a Wild West heritage that has persisted through the 20th century. As late as 1982, a working brothel (The Dumas) operated across the street from my high school, Butte High.
If I could have any job in the world (besides the one I have now): I’d be a copy editor for the New York Times.
