If you don’t know about the UC Staff Advisors to the Regents, now is a great time to learn more and ask questions about their role and responsibilities. Each year, two staff and/or non-Senate academic employees are invited to participate in open sessions of the Board of Regents as well as designated committees. The staff advisors bring the voice and perspective of staff and non-Senate academic employees to board deliberations.

Current Staff Advisor Donna Coyne is associate director of admissions at UC Santa Barbara, and she formerly served as chair of the Chancellor’s Staff Advisory Council and as a member of the UC Santa Barbara Staff Assembly Executive Board.

Staff Advisor to the Regents Designate Deidre (De) Acker has been on the UC staff for more than 25 years, working first at UC Santa Barbara and then moving to UC Merced. She is currently the Campus Ombuds at Merced, and served as assistant dean for the School of Natural Sciences for more than seven years.

Applications are invited each January from all eligible UC staff and non-Senate academic employees for the next staff advisor designate, who is selected to serve a two-year term, the first year as staff advisor designate and the second as staff advisor. The president selects the designate in consultation with the chairman of the board.

Bring your lunch and plan to spend a fun and informative hour learning about the Staff Advisors to the Regents.
